For readers who aren’t familiar with the concept, the goal of the ‘2+2 dialogue’ is simple. It seeks to establish a diplomatic yet fruitful conversation between the 2 countries about the respective heads of defence and external affairs.
This is a term that has been adopted in foreign discussions that are utilized to install a dialogue mechanism between 2 countries to discuss integral topics with defence and external affairs ministries.
The Agenda of the India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue will be the following:
- Endeavour to enable high-level reviews of the progress being made in aspects relating to defence, security cooperation, collaboration concerning technological advancements and maintenance of communal ties.
- In addition, the Minister will pave the way for the progress of the futuristic roadmap for the India-US partnership as envisioned by PM Narendra Modi as well as President Joe Biden as per the discussion that took place in June and September of this year.
- Both sides will be engaging in discussions relating to regional issues, exchanging views about shared priorities relating to multilateral expansion and developing a framework similar to QUAD.
Ahad of the dialogues, the State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel had this to say
“India is a country that we have a deep partnership with and Blinken will be going for the India-US 2+2 Ministerial dialogues pertaining to security with Secretary of defence Austin, so I expect of course, that deepening the security cooperation and partnership will be one of the many topics that will be discussed.”
