Japan CPI Sparks Curiosity This Week
Last week’s flurry of central bank decisions gives way to a quieter week, with policy meeting minutes from Japan , and Canada taking center stage ahead of the holidays.
Major data and Events data for this week – Japan CPI Sparks Curiosity This Week
US
In the U.S., consumer confidence on Monday (forecast 112.9 from 111.7), durable goods and new home sales on Tuesday with a forecast of -0.3% from 0.3% and 666k from 610k respectively will attract attention.
On Thursday, weekly jobless claims with a forecast of 218k from previous 220k are the main releases, with no scheduled Federal Reserve speeches.
Japan
Japan’s data highlights include December Tokyo CPI on Tuesday with a forecast of 1.5% from previous 1.5%, November jobs (forecast 2.5% from 2.5%), industrial production (-3.4% from previous 2.8%) and retail sales (1.5% from 1.3%), expect to drag volatility in the Yen on Tuesday.
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda delivers a speech to a business lobby on Wednesday and the BOJ releases the summary of opinions from the Dec 18-19 policy meeting on Friday, likely to attract attention.
The BOJ’s October meeting minutes are due earlier in the week.
UK
The UK releases just final Q3 GDP on Monday (forecast 0.1% from previous 0.1%), and there is no significant euro zone data or central bank speakers.
Canada
Canada releases October GDP and November producer prices. The Bank of Canada publishes its December meeting summary on Monday. There is no data of note from New Zealand.
